We’ve all heard, watched, and talked about how Venus and Serena Williams‘ father trained them using his unique training regimes. Did you know Venus and Serena Williams once trained with pro-boxers?

About ten years ago, in 2012, a documentary on the renowned Williams sisters, Venus and Serena, was released. The documentary followed their road to becoming one of the finest tennis players ever seen. Also, their father and other coaches actively participated in the documentary, and discussed how they helped develop the legendary sisters.

However, in that sports documentary, there was a moment when the seven-time Grand Slam champion talked about her father’s unorthodox training methods. The 42-year-old said, “I remember he said boxers has the best feet, and we needed a faster foot so…”

Further, even Williams’ sister’s childhood coach shared his take on training with boxers. Rick Macci added that “We even had a professional boxer in a sand pit going every day. If they didn’t move, they would get popped.”

When a renowned tennis player talked about Richard Williams’ training methodsNot only did the famed sister duo admire the way their father trained them, but legendary tennis player Vijay Amritraj once stated King Richard’s unconventional method of training his daughters would be difficult to imitate in the future. Last year, the former world number 18 appeared in a podcast show called Play to Potential Podcast and talked about what made King Richard unique as a tennis father who helped his daughters become who they are today.

Amritraj praised King Richard and Oracene Price for their incredible attitude in that conversation. He said that they nurtured two young brains with a great sense of duty.
