Barcelona players appeared in good spirits just hours after learning that popular manager Luis Enrique will step down at the end of the season.

The Barca boss announced he will leave the club at the end of the campaign moments after watching his side dismantle Sporting Gijon 6-1 on Wednesday evening.

But his players seemed in good spirits on Thursday morning with star defender Gerard Pique watching popstar wife Shaikra playing tennis at the luxury Bonasport Club Esportiu in Barcelona.

“The way I do this job is why I have to leave,” he said after the match. “There are very few hours to rest. I need to rest.I will not be coaching Barcelona next season, it’s a very difficult decision for me.” Team-mate Neymar was all smiles during a training session – showing off some impressive skills – while Luis Suarez posted a pH๏τo enjoying time off with his young family to social media.

Enrique revealed that he had a meeting with the club’s top brᴀss pre-season and admitted he may not renew his contract . The club did not push him to make a hasty decision. Enrique also thanked the players for their support and spoke from “three exciting months” that remain in the season.
