Tennis legend Serena Williams shared rare footage on social media, revealing her life behind the curtain, juggling her priorities as a mother of two and her entrepreneurial duties.
Williams, who celebrated her 42nd birthday a few months ago, is the managing partner of a venture capital firm – Serena Ventures (SV), which she founded in 2014 – that seeks to invest in companies that exemplify innovation and embrace women empowerment.
In the video, the 23-time Grand Slam champion could multitask, holding her newborn daughter Adira River, tied to her chest with the help of a 𝚋𝚊𝚋𝚢 wrap carrier, while conducting a business meeting geared towards the financials with her colleagues at the firm.
“We are super excited to give you a behind-the-scenes look at a workday in the life with our amazing GP, @serenawilliams!” Serena Ventures posted in the caption of the video.
During the behind-the-scenes look at Serena’s daily life, she apologized to her team for not being able to switch on the camera and intermittently loitered and sat in her personal space while she was actively engaged in a call.
“Sorry, I can’t join on camera today. I’m literally like shaking this one (Adira River) to sleep.”
Serena retired from professional tennis in 2022, playing her last match as a professional at the US Open – a tournament she won six times in singles and thrice in doubles. When she announced her decision to step away from the sport, one of the reasons was to dedicate her time to becoming a venture capitalist.
As the name suggests, venture capitalists are people or private firms offering capital investments to startups with long-term growth potential in exchange for equity. In a report by Business Insider, Serena Williams was the No. 4 female seed investor this year after raising $111 million in venture fund a year ago.
