Rafael Nadal and Xisca Perelló: Nearly Two Decades of Love Behind Their Success

She accompanied him throughout his career and the couple is better than ever.

Rafael Nadal and Xisca Perelló began their relationship almost 20 years ago. So much time could cause a certain wear and tear on the couple, exhaustion, but this is not the case for the Spaniards, who even saw the birth of their first child just under two years ago and will celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary almost at the same time. What is their key?

Unlike the course chosen by other couples, Rafael Nadal and Perelló have managed to maintain a low profile for a good part of the Spanish tennis player’s career. The pact of silence even extended to each of their families, who have managed to keep what was happening between them a secret. This helped the type of commitment that each of them wanted to assume during the first years.

Another important clue was picked up by John Carlin when he wrote the book “Rafa: My Story”, for which she was interviewed: “Travelling together everywhere would not be good for him or for me. If I followed him everywhere, I think there would be a danger that we would stop getting along so well.” Respect for personal space seems to be a fundamental element.

“He has given him his space and space to relax and never feel overwhelmed. When you are under pressure from Nadal, it is essential not to feel tied down,” said a person close to both in an interview with the BBC. Will they be able to continue their success?

Getting ready for the Laver

Rafael Nadal withdrew from the last Grand Slam of the season, the US Open, because he did not feel fit enough to compete. His year was not the best, but he managed to return after a long injury and has not yet made his possible retirement official. When will he return to the courts?

The next tournament for the Fiera will be the Laver Cup, the competition created and organised primarily by Roger Federer. The Laver will be held in Berlin on the weekend of 22 September and, as usual, will pit the best teams from Europe against the best from the rest of the world.
