Lionel Messi continues to be out of action. |
On the morning of March 10, in the third round of MLS 2025, Inter Miami hosted Charlotte FC at home. Messi returned to the team’s roster, but sat on the bench for the entire match, even in the context of the home team being down from the 38th minute, when goalkeeper Ustari committed a dangerous foul outside the penalty area on Wilfried Zaha.
However, another Inter Miami star, Luis Suarez, still shined with an assist for Tadeo Allende to score in the 46th minute, thereby bringing a hard-fought 1-0 victory for Inter Miami. This is Inter Miami’s second victory after the first 3 rounds of MLS 2025.
After the match, coach Javier Mascherano confirmed that Messi did not have any serious problems, but the Argentine superstar needed to rest because he had been working continuously for over a month.
On March 7, Messi was also absent from Inter Miami’s 2-0 win over Cavalier FC in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup round of 16. This was the second consecutive match in which the Argentine superstar did not play, although he had trained normally with the team before.
Messi is likely to travel to Jamaica for the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup round of 16 against Cavaliers this midweek. Around 35,000 fans are expected to attend the match to see Messi in action. This is considered a historic match for Jamaican football, as fans in this country will see Messi on the field for the first time.
