“It’s really impressive – David (Beckham) is an outstanding person. Even though he doesn’t come here often, when he’s in Miami he comes for a few days. We also keep in touch outside the club and share moments when he’s here,” El Pais quoted Messi as saying.
Messi added: “He is simple, humble, approachable, and a really great person. It is strange to see him in another aspect of football, not as a player, but in the role he is now and represents the club. But Beckham still has the feeling of a player, because when he comes here, he often goes out with the ball, takes part in training sessions with us.”
During Inter Miami’s training session on April 17, Beckham showed off his excellent free kick skills when he scored consecutively. This surprised Messi quite a bit: “He still showed incredible football skills. However, the most important thing is his simplicity and approachability. I didn’t know him before and didn’t expect anything, but I was really surprised by the way he behaved.”
Earlier, Futbol de Primera revealed that Beckham and Jorge Mas, co-owner of Inter Miami, were negotiating with Messi about the future, in the context that the current contract between the two sides has only 8 months left. Messi signed a 2.5-year contract with Inter Miami in the summer of 2023.
This contract will expire at the end of the 2025 MLS season, which is December of this year. Inter Miami also has an automatic 12-month extension clause with Messi, but the team of Beckham and Mas wants Messi to stay longer.
