Lionel Messi’s learning path besides football

Before achieving all the glory in his football career, few people know that Lionel Messi also had a difficult learning path.

Lionel Messi, one of the greatest players in football history, is not only known for his amazing performances on the pitch but also raises curiosity about his personal life, especially his education journey. Did Messi go to school like other children, or did he spend all his time pursuing his passion for football since he was a child?

Messi was born on June 24, 1987, in Rosario, Argentina, into a family that loved sports. At a very young age, Messi’s football talent was revealed early. At the age of 4, he joined the Grandoli football club, where his talent surpassed that of his peers. However, despite his passion for football, Messi did not neglect his studies.

From the age of 4 to 13, the young player attended elementary school number 66, General Las Heras, in his hometown of Rosario. According to his former teacher Maria Soler, Messi was a good boy, shy but very self-disciplined. Despite spending a lot of time on football, Messi always completed his homework and was serious about his studies.

The big turning point in Messi’s life came at the age of 13, when Barcelona invited him to join their La Masia academy. The Catalan club agreed to pay for Messi’s treatment for growth hormone deficiency. The decision to move to Barcelona opened up a path for Messi to play professional football, but it also meant that his education was affected.

There, Messi continued his studies at a public high school near the Camp Nou. However, the academic program had to take a backseat to the training and match schedule. Messi could only attend classes for a minimum of three days a week, but he always focused on improving his soccer skills. Despite having little time to study, the Inter Miami star completed his high school program with the help of private tutors arranged by Barcelona.

Throughout his career, Messi has repeatedly expressed his regret at not being able to continue his education. He once shared that if he had the chance, he would like to experience university life and develop more skills outside of football. This shows that, despite his great success on the field, Messi still recognizes the importance of education in life.

Today, as a father and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, the Argentine superstar continues to encourage his children and others to take education seriously. Through the Leo Messi Foundation, he has contributed to many educational and health projects, helping thousands of underprivileged children access better learning opportunities.

It can be said that although Messi did not pursue the traditional path of education like many others, he has turned his experiences into valuable lessons for the younger generation. Messi is not only a symbol of football but also an inspiration in the spirit of learning and dedication, showing that success comes not only from talent but also from perseverance and dedication.
