It’s a “pity” that Lionel Messi and Zinedine Zidane have never played together, the Frenchman told the Inter Miami star during their long chat.
In September, Zidane attended a match in Miami where he met David Beckham, a former Real Madrid teammate and co-owner of Miami.
However, the former Juventus and Real Madrid player now regrets not having the chance to play with Messi.
“Unfortunately we couldn’t play together,” he said in the conversation facilitated by Adidas. “Now I’m going to pass you the ball.”
“Today is a very important day for me because I can tell him how much I admire him,” she said at another point. I think it’s absolute magic.
“I have always admired him and loved him a lot,” Messi replied. “I followed him closely in Madrid. As I was from Barcelona, he also caused me a lot of suffering.”
Later, the two exchanged autographed French and Argentine jerseys.
While Messi made his debut for Barcelona’s first team in 2004 and played for the team for 17 years, Zidane played for Los Blancos from 2001 to 2006.
As a coach, Messi also had frequent disagreements with Zidane, and the two clashed in the 2005 Clasico.
From 2019 to 2021, the 51-year-old coach managed Real Madrid.
The Argentine also spoke about his childhood idol, the late Diego Maradona.
“Those of us who played football as children wanted to be like him all our lives,” he said.
“That was our dream and desire, and we tried to emulate what Maradona did, although no one could be like him.”
Back to the present, Messi spoke about how his sons, Thiago, 11, Mateo, 8, and Ciro, 5, are already completely in love with the game.
My kids love it. All three of them love it. “They have a great interest in football,” she said. “All day long, all three of them.”
