Comedy of Errors: Hakim Ziyech’s Second Failed Medical Leaves Chelsea Fans in Stitches

After reportedly failing a second physical in as many weeks, Hakim Ziyech is expected to remain with Chelsea this summer. Ziyech is one of a small group of Chelsea players that are no longer needed by Mauricio Pochettino.

Earlier this summer, it appeared that the Morocco international would be joining Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia.

After Ziyech allegedly failed his test, Al Nassr revised their offer for the winger to significantly lower salaries and the £17 million deal fell through.

Ziyech quickly got over the heartbreak of his failed Saudi move when Galatasaray, a Turkish club, and Chelsea struck an agreement on a transfer.

The Dutch media, however, reported that Ziyech had failed his medical again, thus that option was also scrapped.

It’s the latest transfer disappointment for Ziyech, who has had a trying time of it since the World Cup. Ziyech played a pivotal role in Morocco’s historic run in Qatar, when they advanced to the semifinals for the first time in their country’s history.

Ziyech did not figure into Graham Potter’s plans for the future of Chelsea despite his great play. At the close of the January transfer window, Paris Saint-Germain attempted to sign Ziyech on a temporary loan.

The fallout occurred on the day of the deadline when the essential documentation wasn’t signed. Ziyech was kicked off the St. Mary’s Park squad and deemed to fault for a ‘technical malfunction’ by Chelsea.

Luis Campos, a football advisor at PSG, suggested that Chelsea undermined the agreement in the eleventh hour.

He claimed, “We had the player with us, we had done everything. However, the cooperation of all three is necessary for a successful transfer. This strategy was successful for both Paris Saint-Germain and Ziyech. The last party I hosted, it didn’t turn out so well.
