Launched as a concept in 2009 but it was not until 2012 that it was commercially produced, so far the design and parameters of Twizy have remained almost unchanged. The design of Twizy is very simple with a 4-wheel structure and a cabin for 2 people. It is also for the reason of focusing on crowded urban areas, so Renault only designed a 2-seat cabin instead of 4. To see the compactness of Twizy, please see the parameters below.
- Wheelbase: 1,686 mm
- Overall length: 2,338 mm
- Overall width: 1,381 mm
- No-load height: 1,454 mm
- Luggage capacity: 31 liters
The two sides of the car are two unique doors that swing upwards, the glass doors are actually just two clear plastic panels and cannot be opened and closed by electricity. The air conditioning system is also not equipped to reduce weight and price. At the rear, the rear of the car has a compact and simple design with the luggage compartment opening lid integrated with brake lights and reverse lights, two separate turn signals under the rear bumper.
Because of the compact body structure, the luggage compartment capacity of Twizy is only 31 liters. If you want to carry more items, you must choose the Twizy Cargo version with a luggage capacity of 180 liters. The car uses 13″ alloy wheels with beautiful petal spokes, the front wheel is fitted with 125/80 tires and the rear wheel is fitted with 145/80 tires. Users can choose between 14 body and rim color schemes. .
Renault equips Twizy with an MBL7e asynchronous electric motor, with a maximum capacity of 13 kW, equivalent to 17 horsepower and maximum torque of 57 Nm. Along with that is an automatic transmission with a shortened gear structure. As a result, the car can accelerate from 0-45 km / h in 6.1 seconds, reach a maximum speed of 80 km / h and have a maximum operating range of about 90 km for each fully charged battery. In winter when the weather is cold, the range is reduced to 50 km.
Powering the electric motor is a lithium-ion battery pack with a capacity of 6.1 kWh and weighing 100 kg. Renault says it takes about 3.5 hours to fully charge the battery from empty. The charging port is located at the front of the car and the built-in charger can be compatible with charging stations in Europe and 220 V at home. In terms of safety and technology, Twizy only has an airbag for the driver, seat belts for 2 seats, non-ABS disc brakes and Bluetooth connectivity.
The Renault Twizy is available in three versions: the Twizy Expression for £6,690 ($8,100), the Twizy Dynamique for £7,490 ($9,100) and the Twizy Cargo for £7,690 ($9,400). However, the French automaker does not sell batteries to customers, but only sells cars and rents batteries with packages of 12 months, 24 months or 36 months with operating ranges from 4,500 miles, 6,000 miles, 7,500 miles and 9,000 miles.
