Nicolas Jarry is through to his fifth ATP final and the second in Geneva. Four years after losing the title clash against Alexander Zverev, Jarry served revenge and beat a better-ranked opponent 7-6, 6-3 in an hour and 46 minutes.

Zverev failed to reach his first final of the season, experiencing three mini-breaks in the tie break and losing serve once in the second to propel Jarry through. Nicolas made the difference with his first serve, keeping the second safe and facing one break point in the entire match.

He saved it and grabbed one return game in the second set to seal the deal in straight sets and arrange the title clash against Grigor Dimitrov. Alexander held at 15 in the encounter’s first game, and Nicolas responded with a service winner in the next one for 1-1.

They settled into a fine rhythm behind the initial shot, and Zverev moved 2-1 up with a booming serve.

The German landed another bomb in the fifth game, and the Chilean followed that pace for 3-3.

Nicolas held after deuces in the eighth game and closed the tenth with a volley winner to lock the result at 5-5. Alexander played his first shaky game and faced two break points in the 11th game. Zverev saved them with winners and fired a powerful serve down the T line for a hold and 6-5.

Jarry served to stay in the set in game 12 and hit an unreturned serve to introduce a tie break. Nicolas grabbed a mini-break in the first point with a forehand crosscourt winner and fired two strong serves for 3-0. A touchy drop shot winner sent the Chilean 5-1 up, and he earned three set points with a forehand winner in the ninth point.

Nicolas seized the first after Alexander’s forehand error to clinch the opener after 64 minutes. With a boost, the Chilean served well in the second set and earned a break in the fourth game after the German’s backhand mistake.

Jarry claimed a more extended rally in the fifth game to bring it home and forge a 4-1 advantage. A service winner in game seven pushed Nicolas 5-2 in front, and he served for the victory at 5-3. Jarry hit a double fault to experience a break point and saved it with an unreturned serve. The Chilean landed another for a match point and seized it with a beautiful volley winner that propelled him over the top.
