In the first leg, Barca won 4-0 at home at Camp Nou. This huge gap helped them put one foot in the semi-finals.

But Dortmund showed the mettle of a German team. They refused to give up when they were 4 goals down, and home advantage helped them get off to an impressive start.

In the 9th minute, goalkeeper Szczesny clumsily fouled Gross in the penalty area. The referee immediately pointed to the penalty spot, and Guirassy did not miss the opportunity to open the scoring.

But in the minutes that followed, it was Szczesny who was the hero for Barca. He had to continuously show his talent to block when his teammates above him played like they were sleepwalking. Dortmund had at least 3 scoring opportunities but could not take advantage.

In the 49th minute, the home team doubled the gap from a corner kick. Guirassy was the one to score again with a close-range header after Bensebaini’s header.

It was also Bensebaini who poured cold water on the home team’s hopes when he scored an own goal 4 minutes later.

In an attempt to intercept Fermin Lopez’s cross, the Dortmund defender clumsily kicked the ball into his own net. The second leg ended 1-2, and the aggregate score was 5-2 in favor of Barca.

Barca continued to live under pressure when Guirassy completed his hat-trick in the 76th minute. Araujo cleared the ball straight at the Dortmund striker’s feet, and he did not miss the opportunity to shoot into the net from just 5m away.

But in the last 10 minutes of the match, Barca’s midfield regained control and did not give Dortmund any other significant chances. In the end, Barca lost 1-3 in the second leg, but won 5-3 on aggregate and booked their place in the Champions League semi-finals.

This is also the first time the Catalan team has reached the Champions League semi-finals since Messi left.
