Prince William has expressed his views on the endless debate surrounding who is the greatest footballer of all time between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
The Portuguese and Argentine football icons are often referred to as the greatest players to ever grace the pitch, but the debate over who deserves to be called the “greatest player of all time” continues to rage.
During a chat with Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings, Prince William – a huge fan of the team – was asked about his favourite celebration before sharing his favourite player and choosing legend Lionel Messi as his number one.
When asked by The Sun reporter what celebration he would like his ideal footballer to perform, the Prince replied: “Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous celebration, for sure.”
When Mings asked if he had ever tried to replicate the famous ‘Siu’ celebration in his garden, the Prince laughed and replied : “Sure! And then I injured my hamstring.”

Then, when asked to put his two favorite players head-to-head, the Prince chose Ronaldo and Messi, and ultimately decided on Inter Miami’s Messi: “It has to be Messi, just Messi,” he said.
Prince William is the head of the Football Association, regularly appears at matches in his spare time and occasionally brings his eldest son, Prince George, along.
He recently attended Aston Villa’s Champions League match against Club Brugge to support his favourite team. The Birmingham club are in the Champions League for the first time and are bidding to win their first major European trophy since winning the European Cup in 1982.

Messi has just returned to the field after three consecutive absences. In the Champions Cup match in Jamaica on the morning of March 14, the Argentine striker immediately scored a goal against the Cavalier Club. At the same time, Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates at Al-Nassr will face Al-Kholood in the Saudi Pro League in the early morning of March 15.
