Lionel Messi Shares His Mother’s Sacrifice as a Cleaner – Now He’s Giving Back in a Big Way

Throughout his career, Lionel Messi’s mother, Celia María Cuccittini, has been by his side to celebrate many of his accomplishments. Even though Lionel Messi and his mother had a time apart when he was little, they still have a deep and solid bond.

Celia María Cuccittini, originally from Argentina, supported her family by working part-time as a house cleaner prior to the fame and wealth that came with her son’s achievement. Her husband worked in a factory, and the two of them did everything they could to help Lionel Messi, who had a physical issue that prevented him from growing.

Thankfully, their perseverance paid off, as their kid went on to create history by joining FC Barcelona, a soccer team in Spain. When their son Lionel was a little child, Celia María Cuccittini and her husband had financial difficulties.

Lionel had a growth hormone shortage, and nearly all of their wages were spent on the costly medication. Fortunately, FC Barcelona intervened and promised to pay for Lionel’s medical care. Because of this kind offer, Celia and her family decided to go to Spain in order to care for their son.

Celia, Lionel, and his siblings did not, however, remain in the European nation for very long. Later, Celia left her husband and son behind and went back to Argentina. “It was really difficult for me,” Lionel revealed. There were times when I felt really depressed and homesick.

Lionel was only able to see Celia and his siblings every four months for the first three years of his professional career. The soccer player suffered terribly whenever he had to leave them and go back to Spain. “Leo needs his mother,” said Jorge Messi, Lionel’s father.

The relationship between Celia María Cuccittini and her son is strong and long-lasting. Throughout his professional career, Lionel and his mother were frequently separated by physical distance, yet he managed to find meaningful methods to commemorate important occasions together. After Lionel scored a goal against Racing Santander in 2011, he lifted his soccer jersey to show a shirt that said, “Happy birthday, Mom,” in English.

While on vacation that year, he also displayed a tattoo of his mother on his shoulder. After her son won the FIFA World Cup in 2022 in what was dubbed one of the most “dramatic” finals ever, Celia raced onto the field to join him in celebrating, touching the hearts of many.

Lionel Messi was surrounded by ecstatic supporters on the field following what has been called the most exciting World Cup final ever. After all of his achievements, he had finally won the one trophy that had eluded him all of his career.

His mother, Celia Maria Cuccittini, was seen on camera running up to him with tears in her eyes and sporting an Argentina shirt. At first, Messi was not aware of her approach and was staring in another direction. Beautifully captured on tape was the poignant moment when he turned to face his mother and realized he had won the World Cup.
