Salah Closes in on Ronaldo and Messi’s Legacy

Mohamed Salah has just continued to have another sublime performance, contributing to Liverpool’s defeat of Manchester City right at Etihad.

Mohamed Salah is likely to win the EPL top scorer title this season.

With just 14 minutes on the clock at the Etihad Stadium, after Manchester City’s exciting start, Mohamed Salah received a pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold in the box following a corner kick, then decisively fired the ball home to open the scoring.

Not stopping there, when the first half had not yet ended, Salah almost “nailed” the match when he made an accurate assist for Dominik Szoboszlai to double the gap, completely destroying the spirit of resistance of coach Pep Guardiola and his team.

It’s only February, but Salah has already scored 25 goals and assisted 16, taking his total to 41 — one of only a handful of players in history to have had more goal involvements in a single season. If he maintains his current form, he could break the record of 47 goal assists set by Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole when there were still 42 games left in the Premier League.

If Salah continues to score and assist at this rate, he could end the season with 58 goal contributions. “This season could go down as the greatest we’ve ever seen from an individual. I have no doubt about that,” Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher said after the match.

Salah delivers performances of the same calibre as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have done in the past.

Salah showcased his full range of skills at the Etihad, shining on the biggest stage and destroying Manchester City for the second time this season. He became the first player in Premier League history to score and assist in both games against the reigning champions.

Salah has also scored and assisted in 11 Premier League games this season, more than any player in Europe’s top five leagues since Lionel Messi in 2014/15 with Barcelona.

He’s having a Messi and Ronaldo-style explosive season ,” Carragher commented.

“We’re talking about the Ballon d’Or,” added Daniel Sturridge.

Looking at the way Salah played, no one would have thought that he will turn 33 in June. Age was a key factor in his contract negotiations with Liverpool, but this performance once again confirmed that Salah is still at the peak of his game.

I miss it a lot' - Lionel Messi reiterates his desire to return to Barcelona - Barca Blaugranes

Currently, The Kop still have a wide open door to conquer the Premier League title, Carabao Cup and are considered a bright candidate in the Champions League. If Salah can help Liverpool win all 3 trophies when the season ends, surely the club’s Board of Directors will have to find every way to keep him at Anfield instead of having to watch the agreement between the two sides expire in the summer.
