SUNSPORT recently visited Luis Suarez’s new restaurant, Chalito, located at the north end of the famous Ramblas in Barcelona. The 30-year-old superstar striker is not only scoring goals on the field but is also eager to succeed in the culinary world.
Chalito offers a down-to-earth dining experience, serving fast food with a Latin twist and generous portions fitting for someone nicknamed El Gordo, which means “the fat one” in Spanish. The menu features a mix of classic South American dishes alongside a selection of pizzas, hinting at Suarez’s continued fondness for Italian cuisine.
One standout dish is the Bife De Chorizo, a massive prime sirloin steak that promises to satisfy a hearty appetite. Another popular item is the Milanese, which is essentially a pizza topped with breaded chicken instead of dough. While it’s unlikely that Suarez and his Barcelona teammates indulge in such decadent meals regularly, the restaurant does offer a variety of options that appeal to many.
In a delightful twist, Lionel Messi made a visit to Chalito, allowing Suarez to return the favor after years of setting up chances for his friend on the pitch. The drinks menu features beers, soft drinks, and jugs of Sangria, making it a lively spot to relax.
Chalito is also known for its homemade dessert menu, although after tackling our substantial main courses, we found it difficult to make room for sweets. Ultimately, we opted to settle the bill, which was surprisingly reasonable—no need to be a world-class footballer to afford it. As a parting gift, Suarez’s staff generously sent us off with a couple of complimentary shots, rounding off a memorable dining experience.
