MG Cyberster – A Convertible Electric Sports Car Channeling Lamborghini Vibes

The MG Cyberster, a sports electric car, was unveiled at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show. Originally introduced as a concept car in 2021, the commercial version was finally launched at the auto show. The MG Cyberster pays tribute to its British roots and has a sporty appearance, though with a more restrained design than the concept version.
MG Cyberster possesses a compact and quite impressive design

The Chinese-made MG Cyberster has a compact size, comparable to the Mazda MX-5. It measures 4,535 mm in length, 1,913 mm in width, 1,329 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,690 mm. The Cyberster belongs to the C-size convertible segment and boasts a scissor door resembling that of a Lamborghini supercar. Its aggressive front end and air cavity design, smooth headlights, multi-spoke alloy wheels, and muscular fenders are among its striking exterior features. The black-painted rear compartment, open/close felt top, and arrow-shaped taillight cluster integrated into the air vents and double diffuser also add to its unique design.

Inside the MG Cyberster is an interior space with only 2 seats with a large curved screen on the dashboard. In particular, the car is also equipped with a rectangular steering wheel, integrated with sport gearshift paddles. On the center console, there seems to be one more screen to adjust the car’s features.

According to Carl Gotham, Director of MG Design Center in Marylebone, London, UK, Cyberster marks the beginning of a new chapter for the brand. He emphasized the importance of a design style that respects the brand’s heritage and is modern at the same time applied to Cyberster.

Currently, MG has not announced the specific parameters of Cyberster. However, according to some sources, the car will have 2 versions: rear-wheel drive RWD and all-wheel drive AWD. In particular, the RWD version owns a powerful 310 horsepower electric motor. The corresponding figure of the AWD version is 536 horsepower. The electric motor is combined with a lithium-ion battery pack manufactured by the parent company SAIC, but the capacity and distance traveled after charging are unknown.

The price of the MG Cyberster has also not been revealed. In addition to China, this electric car model will be sold in other markets such as the UK and Europe next summer.
